​​​​​​​​​​​The Sankofa Community Development Corporation serves as a catalyst to revitalize New Orleans' Lower and Upper Ninth Ward communities. The 501c3 non-profit organization serves residents of the area by addressing the social determinants of health, supporting diets rich in fruits and vegetables, and helping to decrease cardiovascular risk factors. Sankofa CDC works to increase access to fresh healthy produce and educate residents about the importance of growing and consuming healthy foods.

• ​Residents of the Ninth Ward community have regular access to fresh local produce
• Youth are working as peer leaders and learning the foundations of agriculture and nutrition
• Vacant land is being transformed into garden spaces that grow fresh food

Accomplishments :

Sankofa Means:

'Sankofa' comes from the Akan language of Ghana and translates literally to SAN (return), KO (go), FA (look, seek and take). In the Akan culture, the Sankofa represents the importance of respecting the wisdom of the past while planning and working for the future.
